About Newton’s Karate
We believe that the traditional karate of Okinawa provides a full, comprehensive, and effective program for all serious practitioners of the martial arts. While teaching life-protection art, we also strive to instill humility, courtesy, respect, patience, and self-confidence in all students. We are a very family-friendly dojo. We also compete with the Amateur Athletic Union and have produced an impressive number of state, regional, and national champions.
Kobudo, which literally translates as "Ancient Martial Ways," is a separate martial art but closely related to karate. Kobudo training is vitally important for many reasons. Not only does Kobudo preserve an ancient Okinawan fighting art from being eroded by time, but it also enhances the practitioner's karate technique. By training in weapons, the individual develops a strong mental attitude, power, speed, and focus and experiences the "realness" of combat through Kobudo Kumite. The weapons currently being taught here are the bo, nunchaku, sai, tonfa, eaku, tekko, nunte bo, and tanbo.
